Think about your favorite artists of all time. Really put some effort into that notion.
The beauty of music, is that in order for it to become new, it needs to evolve from where it came. Roots.
We’re huge fans when it comes to this, whether it was our Cloak & Dagger mix that sparked this whole thing three years back or the OG Cover Cuts — music is constantly building upon strong foundations.
Without these “base” influences, without the Duke Ellington’s, Chi-Lites, Bill Withers, Bowie’s and Led Zeppelin’s of the game, there’s a good argument to be made that we’d have no Beastie Boys, Action Bronson’s or Radiohead’s of the world – they may have never been turned on.
Same goes for you the listener. In the end, we’re all fans, whether your name is Jane Doe or one of the artists above, we all start in the same spot. No one knew shit. In this week’s mixtape you’re going to hear an assembly of some of the best songs ever – in your book – and hear from the people who took originals, and made them their own.
