School Night! @Brooklyn Bowl

The most relaxed night of the week in NYC is Monday. People detox from Sunday Funday, do their laundry and buy groceries. But if you happen to want to catch a show, or grab a beer, or even go bowling or all of those things — School Night at Brooklyn Bowl is the place to be.

Last Monday I ventured to BB in order to see Walking on Cars (more on them later), and also ended up catching the first two artists, and damn was I glad I did.

First up was The Waylayers from England.

These guys had great beats and were a little bit funky, it worked for them. Listen to “Footsie” when you get a chance, you will be dancing. The only thing that was wrong was the lighting, you couldn’t see what these guys looked like at all. As an up and coming band who doesn’t play in the U.S. often — bad move. The only band to pulled this off recently has been Daft Punk. Best leave the mystery to your personal lives kids, we want to see you!

The next artist was Grace Weber, this girl’s voice was pure dynamite. She was a little human — but listening to her — you would never know. She also happened to be gorgeous [insert some serious envy here].

The thing that was unique about Grace was that her entire band was made up of independant musicians. During her song “Like a Fool,” the bassist jumped in with this voice that was so amazingly incredible it literally took me by surprise. With him complementing Grace’s sound, they band made for a great show.

Her new album The Refinery is out Oct. 7th. If you can’t wait that long check out Grace on Spotify: Grace Weber – Perfect Stranger

Finally, Walking on Cars made their US debut. The band is made up of lead singer Patrick Sheehy, pianist Sorcha Durham, lead guitarist Dan Devane, bass guitarist Paul Flannery and drummer Evan Hadnett. If you can’t tell by their names that these folks are Irish, then just wait until you hear them speak or sing. I left a changed person after this show. This band is stunning.

They’ve just released an EP on Spotify called Hand in Hand, but their most popular single is “Catch Me If You Can” and when they played it for the Brooklyn Bowl crowd, the band was seriously stunned to find out that they actually knew the words. Just then Patrick Sheehy (lead singer) turned to the rest of the band, with huge smile on his face and shouted “What is this?!” So did the rest of us.

Welcome to the US kids — don’t ever leave.
