I know it’s not really a Tuesday, none the matter. Apologies on the lateness of this post, life’s been getting in the way of fun like it usually does. Regardless, we’re here, I’m here, we’re ready and happy to offer some insights and fruits of our musical labor. This is special, it’s generational, it’s reflective, it’s cultural, it’s love, it’s dope.

Tomorrow night the legendary Rhymesayers Crew & record label celebrate 20 years of hip hop, pushing culture and lyricism. It’s hard to pinpoint any labels’ impact on music, but for anyone that loved underground hip-hop music from its heyday in the late 90’s, early 2000’s till today, these guys should mean a lot to you. It’s quite an accomplishment given the industry these days and the amount of labels that have folded over the years.

So for today’s mixtape, we wanted to share with you a special playlist focusing in on the works of a Rhymesayers original, Atmosphere. The team of Slug & Ant have been steady throughout their years providing gems and anthems, acting like counter culture role models for kids whose streets were sidewalks and whose wars typified youth culture and adolescence. In their older years, Slug & Ant’s content pushes more towards a connection about reflection and maturity, but the quality has never left.

Big shout out to these guys, best of luck manana – have fun trying to stay balanced with all the lemons Lucy left you on the south side of Minneapolis. Some would say that’s a family sign, we just hope it’s not overcast! Respect.
