In 2014…is hip hop dead? Maybe…on the surface hip hop’s kinda garbage but you can say this about any genre of music that’s been exploited, robbed and stripped away from its authenticity. There’s only a handful of rappers serving it justice and holding it down. Today’s environment is saturated with laptop emcees with weak twitter game, even weaker production and horrible mic skills. Repeating the same hook for four mins doesn’t make you an amazing lyricist and recycling your dad’s old trap beats doesn’t make you hot.

And like anything that gets abused and overexposed it’s bound to drive the true artists down to the underground where they can hone their skills, cultivate their fan bases and do shit on their own terms. Today’s mixtape follows those artists from past to present reshaping a culture that’s in desperate need of a lot more heroes. Enjoy!
