For us at the Soul Dynamic the official calendar year starts when festival season gets going. Happy New Year! Welcome to 2015 bitches! Any time spent, moments shared, happenings occurred before now was all a mere dress rehearsal. Traditionally we celebrate the kickoff of music’s new year with Coachella, but let’s be honest – Austin is what get’s the industry turnt up. Facts only people, so this year, from St. Patrick’s day till March 22nd we’ll be taking our high-flying act to Austin to uncover music’s best emerging artists. Our Chinese combo list of the ten acts and/or showcases you need to hit this week, along with a fresh Tuesday Mixtape to boot. Go mess with Texas:
This is going to be a hopping joint all week long, where you’re going to find the bigger names, but also be able to check out how far the young bucks have come along when it comes to honing those so-called performance skills. Highlights include our boy BØRNS, Hudson Mohawk, Joey Badass and Leon Bridges.
So yes, speaking of Leon Bridges…Distill and refine the best of the Motown sound, slow down the beat to a doo-wop RPM flow and imagine the sharpest dressed cat of a 60’s decade long gone by – and what you have is Mr. Bridges. He’s on a ton of must see lists and along with being at the Spotify House this week you can catch him at these other fine establishments.
Long time friends of the Soul Dynamic, we have to throw love their way. And for all the right reasons. Weds at Maggie Mae’s they’ll be ringing in their 30th SXSW party with indie pop up and comer Boxed In, Nettwerk record label favorite Chadwick Stokes and a band that’s absolutely exploding right now – Family of the Year. Good times will be had by all.
This aussie has an axe and angst to grind. She. Does. Not. Fuck. Around. Her folky punk, raw and honest vibe is refreshing and the best part about all of these words is she gives zero fucks about it. Listen up. You can catch her here.
Pandora is coming through SXSW is a huge way, with four days filled of music madness. Breaking down their schedule in the follwing genres: Electronic, Hip-Hop, Americana and Rock – they’ve made sure to cover something for everyone. Notable acts include: Elliphant, Gorgon City, Earl Sweatshirt, Bj the Chicago Kid, Jamestown Revival, Big Data and more!
Arguably the most conscious rapper out, he’s a throwback to that Tribe, Talib, Roots kinda feel, with lyrics that motivate and remain relevant. On a mission to out think, out smart and out maneuver the best of lyricist, his smooth confident delivery leaves your mind in a Nas like trance that you can’t help but want to hear again and again. See him live HERE.
Wind-Up Records & THE MOST DEFINITELY’s THE YARD
With a lineup that includes personal favorites Rubblebucket, the Sheepdogs and City of the Sun (and I mean check out those pigs above, you salivating yet?), plus glorious Texas BBQ, you can’t go wrong. Two days of fun will be had. What’s cooler is what these guys are about, check it and roll through:
The Most Definitely is a collective of creative endeavors in music. Based out of Brooklyn, we run a music blog, record label and produce live events devoted to the early stage development of our favorite indie artists. Our mission is to be a trusted source for new music discovery and the birthplace for unique artist collaborations and live experiences.
These two may be the most talked about ladies of this year’s event. Sans a drummer, they’re rugged, raw and plain badass. And who needs beats, when this duo flat out rocks. Again, another act that gives zero fucks. That just what we like, check out this week here.
If you’re lucky enough to get to this invite only event, you’re at least one thing right with your life.
The band who’s signature sound is electronic pop and R & B infused over hip-hop beats, well they wouldn’t describe themselves that way. Allow me to start over. With a sound that’s not to be categorized (there, that’s better), Until the Ribbon Breaks knows no bounds when it comes to the art of music and conversation. They’re definitely an outfit on the rise and one you need to fuck with, see them in Austin here.
